What is Letterpress?

Letterpress is the oldest printing method, and it’s alive and well in our shop. Your carefully crafted design is pressed deep into the paper, which adds a tactile delight that your key-board-abused fingers and flat-screened eye-balls hunger for.

Here is how it works:
Polymer printing plates are etched with the details of your design and loaded onto the bed of the giant iron contraption that is our press. Ink that has been meticulously mixed to the pitch-perfect colour is rolled onto the raised surface of the plate. The paper is then rolled over the plate, exerting enormous pressure, depositing a thin layer of ink deep in the impression made in the paper. Each sheet of paper is fed by hand and rolled through the press. Then the process is repeated for each additional colour.

It is a remarkable medium! And the stunning results cannot be achieved by any other process.

This, of course, is the short version of the story. If your curiosity is piqued, feel free to get in touch, and we can talk about the delights of letterpress into the night.
